Social Networks We Actually Need

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

After finding the awesomeness that is Dogster.com (Basically, Myspace for dogs) I was joking about other social networks that need to be made. My mom suggested bloging about it, so here I am.

  • Lidster - A social network for every kind of Lid: Rubbermaid, Trash Cans….any lid you can think of.
  • CanCozyspace - A place where can cozies can hang out, blog and have 76 youtube videos playing at once.
  • Flipbookeo - A site to post your hand drawn flip books of skate boards and monster trucks nailing wicked jumps, in gif format of course.

Got any others? Post um in the comments.

Retro disco fun

iTunes had Under The Influence as the free download of the week a few weeks ago, and I can’t help but really really enjoy it. It’s a strange blend of Indie Rock and the Beegees. If you have iTunes check it out here.

Brain Age

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Thanks to my thoughtful kids and my beautiful & lovely wife, I received Brain Age for Father’s Day. After 5 minutes Alicia was hooked, and we decided to get her a copy. Our crazy neighbor had her power shut off, and seeing as how it is 175 degrees outside needed a fan on so she didn’t die. She asked if she could bum some electricity off us, and offered us a little monetary restitution, so we happily obliged. That enabled us to both have a copy of Brain Age, and we also picked up a copy of Big Brain Academy jsut for the heck of it.

Windows Vista Beta 2

Friday, June 16th, 2006

Yup, I took the plunge. After only a few months of a clean XP install, I had already grown tired of the sluggish way it has been running as of late. Enter Vista Beta 2. I’m really impressed with Microsoft, and the way they handled the entire UI. It’s not really like Mac OS X at all (as some blog’s had led me to believe) and I really don’t think MS ripped Apple off other then the Desktop Gadgets.

I don’t have an amazingly fast machine, so I am pretty suprised it’s running as quick as it is. Granted I don’t get the “cool-guy 3d desktop” stuff because of my current video card, but I know that if I get a MacBook that I definatly am going to have it dual-boot Vista and OSX.

Well, that’d the end of my nerdish rant for the moment.

Things that I’m just loving, and other stuff.

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006
  • Moola.com - This adfunded web game that is giving my wife something to do online, plus it makes us money (I figure if she earns 22 cents a day on it, I can buy a MacBook in about a year and a half).
  • The OLPC set on Flickr - Pictures of the One Laptop Per Child prototype that MIT created that will increase learning throught third world countries.
  • Skype - Using it peer to peer is rad, and calling any landline in North America for free is a handy bonus.
  • Seth Werkheiser - Not in a gay way, but in a proud way that things are working out. Indie music blogs may pay off just yet.
  • The 1Up Yours Podcast - Best theme (next to diggnation’s), great hosts and a fair amount of well placed obsenities make it a entertaining listen. NOTE: Embraced Blogs does not consent or condone the use of foul language as a tool to express emotion, though it does make things interesting.
  • The Chevy HHR - It’s my new work vehicle, and its pretty sweet, other then having to crank the volume to make my iPod sound decent. Good design otherwise.
  • Silverorange - Cause they rock. Did the redesign on Digg and also for Mozilla.

Zombies!

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

If I’m reading this right, Austrailia is a land of zombies.

Weekend craziness.

Monday, May 15th, 2006

What a busy weekend. Alicia’s Mothers Day present (An engraved iPod Shuffle) showed up on friday by the skin of it’s teeth. She cried upon hearing the track of our kids wishing her Happy Mother’s Day. Mission Accomplished.

The rest of the weekend was a frustrating blur as I tried to install a new Microwave/Range Hood that wanted nothing to do with it’s new cabinet home. After a few hours of snapping at my family, I gave up and we visted all the folks. Apologies again to my lovely wife for taking out my installation woes on you.
